Common Spots for Burst Pipes

Common spots around the house for water main bursts are places that do not have great temperature control. Areas like the basement, attic, garages, and crawl spaces are especially susceptible to freezing, but pipes that run through walls and cabinets are not entirely safe either.

Preventative Measures

One of the best and cheapest ways to keep your water ducts from freezing is by using Insulation. Insulation can run you as little as 5o cents per foot. Adding Insulation to rooms with poor temperature control will help raise the room’s temperature and help prevent your pipes from freezing.

Keep the water flowing! Running water through the pipe, even if it’s just a slow drip, can help prevent ducts from freezing.

Keeping your house at a warm temperature prevents pipes from freezing. Keeping your thermostat off or low during a cold front may lead to breaks. If you plan to leave your home for longer, ensure your thermostat is no lower than 55 degrees.

Open cabinet doors to get warm air to circulate to the pipes that may be hiding behind the cabinets.
