National Bath Safety Month

January is National Bath Safety Month. Some of us take baths without even thinking about it, but we should take precautions to keep ourselves safe. Slippery and hard surfaces are not a good combination! However, there are steps you can take to minimize the chances of being hurt while relaxing in the tub.

National Bath Safety Month

Why is National Bath Safety Month Important?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), drowning is one of the leading causes of death, with infants and people over 85 years old drowning in tubs. Slip and falls are also a leading cause of injury and death around the home.

Taking some time to make your bathroom a safer place can prevent someone from being injured or worse.

You can install safety bars, grab handles, and non-slip mats both inside and outside of the tub. You can also install a walk-in tub like the ones that Royal Plumbing specializes in. National Bath Safety Month is a great time to look at these ways to protect yourself and your loved ones.

Ways to Observe National Bath Safety Month

Here are some great ideas for observing National Bath Safety Month and to make your bath a safer place for young, old, and everyone in between.

Safety Handles

Installing safety handles both inside and outside of the bathtub or shower can prevent people from slipping and falling. It can also help people with mobility issues get around the bathroom. Royal Plumbing offers safety grab bars and handheld showerheads to give you peace of mind and independence.

Non-Slip Mats

A good non-slip mat is an inexpensive way to help make your bathroom safer. A good non-slip mat in the bath or shower will prevent someone from falling in the tub. Don’t forget to put one outside the tub, too, especially if the bathroom floor is slippery when it gets wet. The mat will also help those that have mobility problems.

Kid Proof the Bathroom

Protect kids from getting into things they shouldn’t. Medicine, razors, clippers, and other personal items can be dangerous for little hands. Make sure they are out of reach from curious children.

Install a Walk-In Tub

If you install a walk-in tub, you will lower the risk of slipping while stepping in or out of the bathtub. Royal Plumbing can install a new walk-in tub or we can do a tub cut-out on your existing tub. The cut-outs are removable and the tub can be restored if the step-in is no longer needed.
